Majal Design School and Mukhi Sisters launched the product of their first design collaboration; a collection of jewelry pouches featuring textile patterns inspired by the Mukhi brand.
The collection of large and mini pouches featured three designs and multiple colorways inspired by the Mukhi Sisters jewelry and their brand equity. It was designed by Majal co-founders and pattern design instructors Nour Tannir and Yasmine Dabbous.
“If anything, this collaboration demonstrates the vast potential of designing your own textile,” Tannir said. “Imagine the possibilities you have at hand when you can create a pattern that speaks your story and reflects your value, instead of using a commercial fabric that anyone may have access to.”
Majal’s textile program is the first of its kind in Lebanon. It features thirteen courses in textile design, including surface design for interior and for fashion.
The collaboration included multiple steps, from research, brand study and design, to color choices, printing and sewing. “It’s been an exciting process with hard work and thinking involved,” Maya Mukhi said. “I will never look at textiles in the same way again.”
The collaboration comes as part of the Majal Partner Circle. The latter is a full-scale program designed to open up market possibilities for Majal students. It includes internships, access to services, discounts on supplies and collaborations with designers.
