FAQ
What is MAJAL Design School?
MAJAL is a design school based in Beirut, Lebanon, offering three certificates and multiple courses and workshops in design and creation. We specialize in jewelry making, textile design and business for creatives.
What is MAJAL’s mission?
MAJAL is a mission-driven school. Our target is to facilitate career opportunities in Lebanon by empowering people through a holistic approach to design and creation. To this end, our expert instructors deliver higher education curricula in a workshop setting. During our six-week courses, they instill students with solid technical skills, design sophistication and entrepreneurial reasoning. Our vision is a more inclusive and more specialized design scene in Lebanon. We teach advanced creation and design curricula but make them accessible to most, both in terms of pricing and in terms of entrance requirements.
What does the word MAJAL stand for?
Majal is an Arabic word that loosely means “opportunities and horizons.” We have chosen this word to refer to the possibilities we aim to provide to our students and our community.Â
Is MAJAL certified or accredited?
We are not certified or accredited. Our certificates are internally-issued certificates of completion. We have made the choice to remain unaccredited to keep our courses accessible to most. We also believe that, in art and design, portfolios speak louder than degrees. At MAJAL Design School, we help you build your portfolio and we connect you with key partners to help boost your career opportunities.Â
What is the difference between certificates, courses and specialty workshops?
Certificate programs at MAJAL are non-accredited certificates of completion. At MAJAL, we offer certificates in jewelry making, textile design and business for creatives. To earn a certificate, you must complete 9 core courses, 3 electives and 2 specialty workshops. Each of these courses lasts for six weeks and meets once a week.
Â
If you do not wish to commit to an entire certificate, you may choose to take a course only. The courses that make up each of the three certificates are open individually to the public. They cover 18 hours of instruction, and are offered once a week over six weeks. Courses rotate every term, offering you a variety of options.
Specialty workshops are one-time sessions, open to everyone. The workshops offer a variety of specialized subjects, such as mosaics, painting, crochet, macrame and more.
How can I apply to your certificate programs?
All applications take place through this website. Once students click on “enroll,” they may sign up and will be able to register for courses and upload their fees through the student portal. Fee payment is done via OMT, Whish, Western Union or Bob Direct.Â
When can I apply for a certificate program?
Certificate program applications are open all year round. We have designed our calendar year to make sure you can graduate in one to two year any time you enroll. Once you apply, you may start your first course at the start of a new term.Â
When do new courses start?
Around 10 new courses are offered every term. Each term lasts for six weeks. Courses rotate every term to make sure that certificate students can graduate within one to two years depending on their scheduling and financial preference.
Can I start with a course only and then move on to take a certificate?
Of course you can! If the course you take individually at MAJAL Design School is included in the certificate program you choose, it will count toward your certificate.
Can I take a private course at my own time at MAJAL?
