Majal founder and instructor Yasmine Dabbous took the art of the Egyptian Khiamiah from the Middle East to New York last month.
The one-day workshop, which took place the Fashion Institute of Technology, came as part of the celebrated New York Textile Month.
"It is so wonderful to know about this delicate tradition and to understand its meaning and its history," one of the participants said.
The workshop included a lecture about khiamiah, the traditional and historical art of handmade wall applique, as well as practical application of the same skill.
"I was really happy to see the reception of this art in New York, and to feel that I represented my region in the best of way," Dabbous said.
