Majal’s First Graduation Ceremony at Beit Beirut Postponed

Majal’s First Graduation Ceremony at Beit Beirut Postponed

Eleven students were to walk the isle on March 28 at Beit Beirut, concluding their 13-course journey at Majal Design School and celebrating their graduation with friends and family. Today, however, the graduation is postponed until the war is hopefully over.

“This is the first batch of students graduating from our textile and jewelry certificates. It’s been amazing and we are so very proud of them,” Nour Tannir, Majal co-founder and program manager, said. "We are however keen on their safety and we want the celebration to be real. That's why we are postponing."

"We are not cancelling, of course!" Tannir added. "That's not a Lebanese trait."

The graduation ceremony will also include an exhibition, featuring the senior projects of the eleven graduates. It includes statement jewelry collections, handmade fabric art works and surface designs for interior and fashion.

Wassila Taha, one of the graduating textile students, said she feels overwhelmed. “This is the first time I feel that I am graduating from a place I’ve been nurtured and encouraged and where significant effort has been put to get me where I am now. I am hoping for better days soon so we can finally celebrate."

The ceremony new date will be announced when the war is over. “We can’t wait to celebrate these students and their achievements. We are delighted to see how much these students grew during their tenure at Majal,” Yasmine Dabbous, cofounder and executive manager, said.
