MAJAL Student Makes It to the Prestigious SMAC

MAJAL jewelry student Lamis Watfa participated in the highly prestigious Salon Des Metiers D’Art du Quebec in Canada. Watfa applied as a jewelry designer, presenting pieces she made in class at MAJAL and beyond.

The SMAQ, in its 68th edition, took place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal under the theme “Savoir-Faire, Faire-Savoir.” It included around 200 curated artisans from across Quebec.

“The application form was very rigorous,” Watfa said. “They asked for my portfolio, for so many documents. They asked for an interview. But eventually my pieces got me in. It was great.”

Watfa was a practicing lawyer when she came to MAJAL two years ago. She did not have any experience in jewelry making but took one class after the other, eventually launching her collection. Watfa’s pieces are designed intuitively, flowing directly from the artist's vision to the finished product.

Known for using fine silver granules and uniquely shaped stones, Watfa blends asymmetry with organic elements in her designs, creating dainty and bold statement pieces.

Today, Watfa lives in Quebec, Canada, where she continues her jewelry education and her work on her line.
